Baby White Donkey Photos in Oatman AZ
Author: Wes | Filed under: FREE Stationery Monday Feb 2,2009A few days ago, we were in Oatman AZ, a side trip, just to see the wild donkeys running through town and the local wild west gunfights…
Oatman is one of the original Route 66 tourist stops and is one of only a few that still exists today. If you are anywhere near Laughlin NV or Bullhead City AZ, you have got to make the trip out to Oatman. We loved it and had a ball for a few hours there.
The road was typical desert, but as you can see, the rocks and small jagged mountains were very beautiful in the afternoon sun.
As we came up the hill and into town, the origins of this quaint little mining town were quite evident and on this sunny January 2009 day, the town was quite busy with both locals and tourists.
Oatman is one of those tourist traps that is a must see at least once… if not every time you are near by.
What was really great was that the prices of things there were really better than in most large stores and we did get our share of goodies… but that’s not the main reason we came.
Here’s the main reason we came:
The local wild donkey population, left around from it’s mining hay days, just wonder through the streets and love being fed carrots by the tourists.
We were also entertained by the locals with a good old fashioned wild west gunfight. They were really quite entertaining.
After the show, they passed the hat around the croud and 100% of the donations are given to the Shriners Childrens Hospital Transportation Fund. To date that day they had given more than $22,000.00.
After the show, we did some more shopping and as you can see, Kathy made some new 4 legged friends. Well, they followed here all through town as long as she had the bag of carrots.
We snapped lots of photos here and while I can’t show you all of them, I have to show you the one I took of the baby donkey…
He was just sleeping near the side of the street at the end of town outside one of the shops. If you look really close you’ll see the little sticker on his nose that says: No Carrots!
The locals told us that they don’t have their teeth yet at such a young age (only a couple of weeks in this case) and can choke on the carrots.
Earlier in the day, he and his mom along with another mother and baby were up at the upper end of town and got nose to nose with a cocker spanial… but that’s another story and I need to get his one posted.
Let’s close by saying that we had a really great time on a beautiful sunny winter afternoon. We highly recommend that you make the short detour if you get the chance, you’ll be glad you did.
We’ll have more photos’ later for you. I just need to remind you that you can click on the images and see/save larger versions of the images and you are welcome to use them to make your own digital stationery and digital scrapbook background papers.
Until next time,
Kathy and Wes
