FREE Stationery Says Banana’s
Author: kwaddell | Filed under: FREE Stationery, Site Information Sunday Aug 17,2008Subject: Bananas-The Amazing Fruit!
Kathy and I thought this was pretty interesting. We eat a lot of bananas here at our house and after reading this… we both hope you do, too!
Thanks to Barbara and Bobbie Mitchell for passing this on to us.
A professor at CCNY for a physiological psych class told his class about bananas. He said the expression ‘going bananas’ is from the effects that bananas have on the brain.
Read on:
Never, put your banana in the refrigerator!!! It can kill some of the effects…
You’re going to find this very interesting. After reading this, you’ll never look at a banana in the same way again.
Bananas contain three natural sugars - sucrose, fructose and glucose combined with fiber. A banana gives an instant, sustained and substantial boost of energy.
Research has proven that just two bananas provide enough energy for a strenuous 90-minute workout. No wonder the banana is the number one fruit with the world’s leading athletes. But energy isn’t the only way a banana can help us keep fit. It can also help overcome or prevent a substantial number of illnesses and conditions, making it a must to add to our daily diet.
Depression: According to a recent survey undertaken by MIND amongst people suffering from depression, many felt much better after eating a banana. This is because bananas contain tryptophan, a type of protein that the body converts into serotonin, known to make you relax, improve your mood and generally make you feel happier.
PMS: Forget the pills - eat a banana. The vitamin B6 it contains regulates blood glucose levels, which can affect your mood.
Anemia: High in iron, bananas can stimulate the production of hemoglobin in the blood and so helps in cases of anemia.
Blood Pressure: This unique tropical fruit is extremely high in potassium yet low in salt, making it perfect to beat blood pressure. So much so, the US Food and Drug Administration has just allowed the banana industry to make official claims for the fruit’s ability to reduce the risk of blood pressure and stroke.
Brain Power: 200 students at a Twickenham (Middlesex) school ( England ) were helped through their exams this year by eating bananas at breakfast, break, and lunch in a bid to boost their brain power.
Research has shown that the potassium-packed fruit can assist learning by making pupils more alert.
Constipation: High in fiber, including bananas in the diet can help restore normal bowel action, helping to overcome the problem without resorting to laxatives.
Hangovers: One of the quickest ways of curing a hangover is to make a banana milkshake, sweetened with honey. The banana calms the stomach and, with the help of the honey, builds up depleted blood sugar levels, while the milk soothes and re-hydrates your system.
Heartburn: Bananas have a natural antacid effect in the body, so if you suffer from heartburn, try eating a banana for soothing relief.
Morning Sickness: Snacking on bananas between meals helps to keep blood sugar levels up and avoid morning sickness.
Mosquito bites: Before reaching for the insect bite cream, try rubbing the affected area with the inside of a banana skin. Many people find it amazingly successful at reducing swelling and irritation.
Nerves: Bananas are high in B vitamins that help calm the nervous system.
Overweight and at work? Studies at the Institute of Psychology in Austria found pressure at work leads to gorging on comfort food like chocolate and chips. Looking at 5,000 hospital patients, researchers found the most obese were more likely to be in high-pressure jobs. The report concluded that, to avoid panic-induced food cravings, we need to control our blood sugar levels by snacking on high carbohydrate foods every two hours to keep levels steady.
Ulcers: The banana is used as the dietary food against intestinal disorders because of its soft texture and smoothness. It is the only raw fruit that can be eaten without distress in over-chronicler cases. It also neutralizes over-acidity and reduces irritation by coating the lining of the stomach.
Temperature control: Many other cultures see bananas as a ‘cooling’ fruit that can lower both the physical and emotional temperature of expectant mothers. In Thailand , for example, pregnant women eat bananas to ensure their baby is born with a cool temperature.
Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD): Bananas can help SAD sufferers because they contain the natural mood enhancer tryptophan.
Smoking &Tobacco Use: Bananas can also help people trying to give up smoking. The B6, B12 they contain, as well as the potassium and magnesium found in them, help the body recover from the effects of nicotine withdrawal.
Stress: Potassium is a vital mineral, which helps normalize the heartbeat, sends oxygen to the brain and regulates your body’s water balance. When we are stressed, our metabolic rate rises, thereby reducing our potassium levels. These can be rebalanced with the help of a high-potassium banana snack.
Strokes: According to research in The New England Journal of Medicine, eating bananas as part of a regular diet can cut the risk of death by strokes by as much as 40%!
Warts: Those keen on natural alternatives swear that if you want to kill off a wart, take a piece of banana skin and place it on the wart, with the yellow side out. Carefully hold the skin in place with a plaster or surgical tape!
So, a banana really is a natural remedy for many ills. When you compare it to an apple, it has four times the protein, twice the carbohydrate, three times the phosphorus, five times the vitamin A and iron, and twice the other vitamins and minerals. It is also rich in potassium and is one of the best value foods around So maybe its time to change that well-known phrase so that we say, ‘A banana a day keeps the doctor away!’
PS: Bananas must be the reason monkeys are so happy all the time! Barbary also added one here; she said if you want a quick shine on our shoes… Take the INSIDE of the banana skin, and rub directly on the shoe… then just polish with dry cloth. Amazing fruit!!!

Laughing Goats…
Author: kwaddell | Filed under: FREE Stationery, Site Information Wednesday Aug 6,2008
Hi Scrapbook and Stationery Friend,
Kathy and I took our two oldest granddaughters, 10 and 7, to the Elbert County Fair here in Colorado this last weekend. As you can see to our left, everyone was having so much fun… even the Goats were laughing!
This one loved the girls and was making all kinds of faces and noises at them.
If you wish, you can click on the image to get a larger version of the image in a new window or tab.
Not only did we get to see and interact with lots of different animals, we had a great time watching the two rodeo’s that day. Yes, there were two different rodeo’s on the same day!
They had a regular rodeo that most everyone is used to seeing with roping, riding and barrel racing such as in the image to the right we took of the Rodeo Queen’s division of barrel racing.
Yes, you can click on that barrel racing photo and get a larger version.
The second rodeo was a “Ranch Rodeo”. It has events that are in line with what they really do on a working ranch. Events such as culling cattle, team roping and branding with a paint marker (that’s just one event.) Here’s an image of one of the teams culling (separating) one of the numbered cows. As a team of 4 riders approaches the heard of about 18 numbered cows, the anouncer calls out one of the numbers and the team must then seperate that one cow from the rest of the heard.
Next, they must get it across the line (where the flagman is at on the fence), rope it by the head and rear feet (just like in team roping in a standard rodeo) and finally mark the cows rear end with a paint marker to simulate branding the animal. All this while keeping the cow from rejoining the
heard. If it gets back into the heard… it’s a no time.
They also had an event that was almost the same, but instead of roping both ends, they can only rope the head and then must brand (with a paint marker) the cow by getting off the horse and holding it steady by hand.
We enjoyed the “Ranch Rodeo” just as much or even more than the regular one. It was amazing how often the cows won! It’s tough with only 4 riders and such a large arena to keep the determined cow from getting back into the heard. The teams that did succeed were very skilled and no one had times under two minutes.
So, if you haven’t been to your local fair lately, you’re in for guite a treat and a really good time when you go. We sure had a great day!

Why Keep a Journal?
Author: Wes | Filed under: FREE Stationery, Training Monday Jul 14,2008Why keep a journal or a diary? Here are just a few of the many advantages and benefits.
Whether you write a few lines or a couple of pages, only through journaling do you record and track both the events and the emotions you felt during your life. Let’s face it, you can only remember so much and you forget so much more. With your journal or diary, you can actually see what you were thinking at that moment in time because your thoughts and experiences are right there to jog your memory. When you commit to writing down the events and your emotional feelings, you have put your thoughts, emotions and experiences into a solid reference form… something that will tell your generations to come who you really were and how you felt.
Below are some more examples of the benefits of keeping a journal.
Journaling reduces stress – Journaling is a proven outlet for the thing in life that cause us stress. The true benefit of getting it all out of us and onto our stationery is that of reducing the stress. Once you’ve tried journaling life’s stressful events, you don’t carry as much with you on your shoulders or within you. It is on the paper stationery or in the digital computer stationeries. By journaling, you give yourself a very powerful form of self-expression, and you’ll find that it’s through that expression you find clarity, release, and your calm.
Journaling to set goals and problem resolutions – As humans, it is only as we put our words on stationery paper in physical form that we begin to finally see and to better understand what it is that we truly want. Then, and only then, do we see what is most important to us, and how we really feel about things in our lives. Journaling is one method to help us do that. Once you can get your thoughts, ideas and plans down on paper, it’s easy to create your goals and find the resolutions to your problems at hand. Then, it’s simple to support what you are thinking by writing about what you need to do.
Journaling to organize our messy lives – We talked above about journaling your goals and putting in writing what you want to accomplish for the day, the month, the year, or within your lifetime. This is also an excellent tool to help you get all those things done. Simply create a personal checklist on a clean page of “things to do.” Be sure and place deadlines next to them… it helps us accomplish more with less wasted time.
Journaling helps keep our focus – You’ll find that the act of writing in a journal creates more personal awareness of both our feelings and everything we have going on around us. This increased awareness is what keeps your focus on the issues and tasks that are most important to you.
Journaling as a time for just you – Spending time that you set aside for yourself to journal is quality ME TIME! Everyone needs a little time to themselves, especially busy moms and dads. Taking just a few minutes a day to add to your journal can make you feel better by gaining the benefit you feel from doing something specifically for yourself.
The simple journaling process:
You can start your journal on any day of the year, it doesn’t have to be the beginning of the week either. Journaling is something you can start today – the sooner you start, the fewer the memories and emotions you have to lose. You can always stop tomorrow and pick up again next week or next year. You can start and stop as often as you want. You can skip a day at any time… It is your journal. But, it takes 21 to 30 days to make a habit, so you may want to block off just 10 minutes each day, maybe just before bed, for the next month and commit to recording your daily thoughts and feelings.
Journal entries should record the day, date and year, tracking your life. When keeping your personal journal, you’ll want to record as many of your experiences, dreams, ideas, desires, thoughts and more each day as you can find the words for. You’ll find it’s a great tool for reflecting on now, as well as in the future. You are telling your life’s story to yourself. Don’t miss any of the good stuff
You’ll soon find that your journal has become one of your most treasured keepsakes. Just add a few photos and you know have a written life’s story scrapbook. After all, your journal is a catalog of your memories and feelings. Over not too much time, your memories become an irreplaceable treasure trove that can be passed on years from now, if you wish, to your children or others you want to know who you truly are.
Don’t forget that Journals are also great gifts for friends, and especially for close family. So, if you’ve never journaled before, consider starting. If you have journaled, but gave it up, look back on what you used to accomplish and consider starting a journal again. Even if your handwriting is no longer legible, digital stationery journals are the next best thing… and the digital stationery pages can be printed on your printer in as many copies as you need.

Lion Loose Near Our Home!
Author: Wes | Filed under: FREE Stationery, Site Information Sunday Jul 13,2008Hi Stationery and Scrapbook Friend,
We had quite the scare yesterday and most of today around here. Someone reported seeing a real lion just a few minutes from our house and got a blurry photo of it.
We had the police, the zoo and animal control along with lots of guns and helicopters swarming the area until late this afternoon when the finally called off the search.
As it turns out, we have a wild animal preserve just a few miles east of our house that we didn’t even know was there… it’s pretty spread out here east of Colorado Springs.
The good news is that after analyzing the image and enhancing it as much as they could, it turned out to most likely be a large dog. The wild life preserve counted all their cats 4 times just to be sure, but none of them were missing.
So, the only big cats we had turned out to be the ones we have in our digital scrapbook Animals category on PrincessCrafts.com.
Now we can go back to walking in the afternoons again…
Before you go and since I don’t want to send out another message when I can combine them all…
